Iams food recall

Iams, Eukanuba to recall pet food over salmonella concern

Procter & Gamble has issued a recall on some of their Iams and Eukanuba dry dog and cat foods.

Eukanuba and Iams have issued a recall for a variety of their cat and dog food sold in Michigan and across the nation over a potential salmonella contamination.

The Procter & Gamble Company has voluntarily recalled several products including certain Iams and Eukanuba dry dog food, and Eukanuba dry cat food after routine testing determined the products might be infected with Salmonella.

The recalled merchandise was reportedly produced during a 10-day window at a single manufacturing site.
According to a press release issued by P&G, the recalled lots represent roughly one-tenth of one percent of the company's annual production.

No Salmonella-related illnesses have been reported thus far.

"Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products," the release added.

Humans infected with Salmonella are instructed to "monitor themselves" for nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Pets with salmonellosis may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting.

Customers who purchased the listed products should stop using them, discard the products and contact P&G toll-free at 800-208-0172 (Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM EST), or via website at www.iams.com or www.eukanuba.com. Media Contact: Jason Taylor 513-622-1111.
