Water ride accident

A water ride accident at Cedar Point is now under scrutiny by park officials as to the cause of the log chute boat malfunction that injured seven people this week, the Monitor reported this Sunday, July 21. Fortunately, both staff and visitors quickly came to the aid of the victims, preventing any deaths or serious injuries. While on the Shoot the Rapids water ride, a boat about to go over the ride’s first hill suddenly flipped over, sending its seven occupants temporarily trapped in the water below.

The water ride accident — that is also being called the Cedar Point accident due to the location of the frightening fall — reportedly flipped over on Saturday, plunging seven people in the water below, trapped in their seats. Fortunately, the quick actions of police officers, medical aides, and park visitors alike were able to save the lives of those who’d fallen in.
After the boat rolled back down the hill and flipped upside down — which has been alleged by park visitors who visited the event — 911 was called as the log chute capsized. Officers are now looking into the cause of the accident.
One witness said that had park visitors and personnel not helped, the trapped occupants could have been in serious danger on the water ride.
"We jumped in and helped them get out," said the witness, Matthew Orr of Euclid. "If we didn't help, I don't even know what would have happened."
In a 911 recording, a caller (an actual victim in the water ride accident) noted that she was on the Cedar Point ride when it flipped over. "Some people are still in the water!”
Although one victim was taken to the hospital, the swift aid of the rescuers was enough to prevent any major injuries to the seven people involved in the water ride accident. A statement from Cedar Point Amusement Park said that “the safety of [our] guests is always our number one priority.”
The Shoot the Rapids venue has since been shut down and is under scrutiny by park officials until the ride is deemed safe to open again.
